Networked Cities

Date:
September 2014 to December 2014
Project Lead(s):

This seminar will introduce traditional and contemporary techniques of urban analysis including ArchGIS and a plug in introducing Remote Sensing technology, in order to understand the spatial effects and challenges of the Toronto metropolitan area. The creation of analytical techniques, developed through maps, city indexes, infographics and other forms of visual documentation, will be supported by the study of contemporary theories. We will investigate methods used by MVRDV and OMA and will discuss readings by Jean Gottmann, Saskia Sassen, Richard Florida among others. International precedents will provide a global perspective on regionalism and the importance of sustainable design strategies and policies.
